We mourn the loss of Dr. Matthias Scholz

With deep sorrow and sympathy, we announce the passing of our founder and owner, Dr. Matthias Scholz, who passed away on April 3, 2020, at the age of 73.

He shaped the course of the company for many years. With his calm, thoughtful, and courageous manner, he laid the foundation for the present success of the LTB Group. His entrepreneurial activities were defined by his strong social commitment and Christian sense of responsibility.

Until 1991, he worked at the former Academy of Sciences of the GDR with a research focus on laser spectroscopy, ultimately as the head of the laser technology department at the Center for Scientific Instrumentation. In 1990, he co-founded LTB Lasertechnik Berlin GmbH along with founding members Dr. Stephan Mory†, Johannes Schurack, and Claudia Scholz. In 2008, LTB Lasertechnik was transformed into a family business, and LTB Holding was established. Since then, he led the company group together with his son, Christian Scholz.

His ideas and decisions were instrumental in positioning LTB Lasertechnik Berlin GmbH at the forefront of the world in the field of nitrogen lasers and high-resolution spectrometers.

Even after stepping down from day-to-day operations and passing the baton to his son Christian Scholz, he continued to follow and support the development of the company. Until his passing, he was deeply involved in the research and development of “melanoma diagnostics,” a project that was particularly dear to him.

We mourn the loss of a person who always made decisions with the well-being of employees and partners in mind. The esteem and respect he earned over the years in his company, in the Adlershof business area, and beyond, are the best recognition of his work.

We will carry forward his legacy in the best possible way and with all our strength.
